The Mandi district has added another feather to its cap by getting registered  Kanya Pujan ( mass worship) of 1008 little girls organized at Seri Manch Mandi  during 2019 International Shivratri festival to highlight Beti Bachao – Beti Padhao campaign launched in the district, in Limca book of records -2020.

The management of the record book has sent an E-mail to Deputy Commissioner Mandi Rugved Thakur in this regard on Wednesday.

Telling about this campaign DC Mandi Rugved Thakur said “The campaign was launched in the district a few months back to create mass awareness among people about protection of girl child by celebrating their birth, highlighting their education providing them equal status in every field of life”.

“ Working with full commitment to remove gender imbalance in the district  and ensuring their  education, safety, health, self-respect and rights of girls were main feature of this campaign for which Mahila Mandals, Panchayati Raj Institutions and other social organizations  were roped- in to take the campaign in every village and Panchayat”, he added.

In addition to this the district administration had taken several steps and gave incentives on the birth of girl child like honoring parents by giving them money, planting a sapling in the name of the newly born girl and special drive for their health check up and education.

To highlight importance of this campaign the administration for the first time had organized a collective Kanya pujan of 1008 girls between age of 4 and 10 years and invited local couples to participate in the kanya poojan to change negative mindset and discrimination between sons and daughters.

Deputy Commissioner Rugveda Thakur has congratulated people for this achievement and said Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao campaign in the district  has been successful in creating mass awareness with public support and inclusion of kanya pujan in the Limca Book of Records -2020 is a matter of pride and honor for the entire state.
