Three persons have died in Kullu district after fury of incessant rain during the past twenty four hours and widespread damages of over Rs 100 crores have been reported in Kullu and Mandi districts.

Water level in all major power hydro- project dams i.e. Larji, Pandoh and Koldam has increased substantially forcing authorities to open spillway gates of all dams.

The normal life has been badly affected as main highways connecting Kullu and Mandi districts were closed due to heavy landslides and roads submerged in river water at a few places .The vehicular traffic on Chandigarh – Manali road and Pathankot – Mandi road remained suspended and efforts were on to restore the traffic . The people in the region did not get supply of newspapers, milk, vegetables etc from Chandigarh till late noon.

In Lahaul district fresh snowfall was reported on Sunday. About 700 persons and 245 vehicles have been stranded at Koksar due to bad weather.

Kullu DC Richa Verma has confirmed three deaths In Kullu district. A villager Chuni Lal was washed away near Jibhi village under Banjar sub-division when gushing water from a local river entered his hut.  Raghav (22) a tourist from Telangana, who was injured on Saturday after being hit in a landslide near Balarga on Manikaran- Barshaini road, died on Sunday. A death of a horse owner from Rohtang has also been reported.

In Mandi River Beas was overflowing on Mandi- Kullu road. DC Mandi Rugved Thakur said , “ At least five feet river water was flowing on the road near Dawada and traffic on this road has been stopped ; landslide near Jarol has also blocked Mandi – Chandigarh road , besides landslides at many other places on the highway”.

Five vehicles parked near Mandi Gurdwara were washed away in the Beas river and historical Panchwakat temple was half submerged in the Beas water.

He said, “In Larji dam normally 60000 cusecs water is reported but it went up to 1.35943 cusecs on Sunday morning; however it is receding now.”

In Pandoh dam spillway gates were opened last night when water and silt level had risen. As per information silt level in Pandoh dam was 2900 PRL meters against danger level of 2940 PRL meters.

While Kullu – Manali road has been submerged in the Beas water near Patlikuhal, Mandi – Pathankot road was blocked at Megal due to landslide.

A per Mandi DC a total loss of Rs 96,72,48,573 has been reported in Mandi district while reports were being prepared for losses in Kullu districts .

Both, Kullu and Mandi districts administrations have been making efforts to open highways and link roads for traffic and restore normal life.
