When Supreme Court Judges have been in the news for different reasons recently, Justice Deepak Gupta, hailing from Himachal Pradesh has created a record by deciding 33 cases in a single day, single handedly.
Justice Gupta acting as a vacation Judge during the Supreme Court vacation decided the cases along as his fellow Judge could not attend the Court as he was not feeling well.
It was a record as no judge during the last 25 years had done this.
Justice Gupta, had decided regular cases after taking up routine matters by lawyers in the Court.
Though all cases in the Supreme Court are decided by a Double Bench , Justice Gupta was convinced by then Chief Justice of India Justice JS Khehad to take up the cases single handedly.
Then Attorney General Mukul Rohtgi had commented, “I have not seen a Judge deciding 33 cases in a day single handedly during the last 25 years.”
